There are a number of ways to find Christmas outdoor decorations at bargain prices. Gently used items can be found at garage sales, thrift stores, in the classified ads in the newspaper and on internet at sites such as Craigslist.

Choosing a Christmas Theme

Planning a theme or having a general plan and building around it can make the project simpler. Something that already fits with the outside decor makes for an interesting display. For example, if you already have lawn ornaments that are ordinarily used, these can be draped with red and green ribbons or ornaments can be hung from them. Plastic poinsiettias placed along hedges can create a pleasing arrangements as a Christmas garden.

Luminaries are a money saving way to light up driveways and walkways. Use green and red lunch-sized paper bags with sand in the bottom to hold a votive candle. They give off a soft a warm glow throughout the holiday season while at the same time providing illumination along driveways and walkways.

While many people over extend their budgets decorating the outside of homes during the Christmas season, with a little preparation, smart shopping and using some imagination and creativity, a striking holiday decor can be attained at a fraction of the ordinary costs.
