Making fast money is possible, but earning quick cash requires a plan as well as the willingness to invest a little time and energy.
In some cases, the need for quick money is the result of circumstances beyond a person's control. But, quite often, people find themselves in desperate straits due to reasons for which they must take responsibility. Evaluating one's circumstances, taking responsibility, and learning from one's mistakes are crucial to long-term financial survival and prosperity. Before looking for ways to earn fast cash, make sure the right lessons are learned.
Basic Economics 101: How to Make Money
Making money requires that one provide a product or service that is in demand. There are basically two routes a person can take: manual or skilled labor. The latter camp, which includes graphic designers, lawyers, and doctors, generally pays more than the former, which is populated by janitors, construction workers, trash truck drivers, etc.
A person looking to make extra money (i.e., money on the side outside of his or her normal job) must decide which path to pursue. If the person already has a set of in-demand skills and/or experience (i.e, website design, computer repair, sales, etc.), that choice becomes easier.
Quick Ways to Make Money
Those who lack in-demand skills must trade time or tasks for money. This individual should make it a priority to acquire market skills (sales, marketing, accounting, medicine, etc.) as quickly as possible.
However, faced with having to quickly earn extra cash, a person lacking in-demand skills can make money by helping another business or entrepreneur make extra money or by helping a homeowner and/or family save time and money. Here are some ideas:
- Call real estate agents, construction contractors, small business owners, etc. (using the telephone directory) and offer to distribute flyers in residential communities.
- Go door-to-door in area neighborhoods, offering to mow lawns, rake leaves, shovel snow, clean bathrooms, clean out and organize garages, etc.
- Approach area farmers and ask if they need any extra hands to help with farming chores.
- Call business buildings, ask to speak with the building manager, and ask if there are any special projects upcoming (renovations, cleanings, etc.) with which they need help.
- Call area churches and ask for money in exchange for cleaning their building, distributing flyers, and/or helping in some other capacity.
- Need money really quickly? Call friends and family (that are in the area) and offer to do any chore they wish for any amount of money they are willing to provide.
A person with in-demand skills should pursue the following action plan:
- Make a list of all skills, knowledge, and experience (computer hardware and applications, sales or marketing experience, organizational skills -- anything and everything)
- Make a list of all the industries and businesses that utilize those skills
- Make a list of area businesses that fit the above category
- Put together a letter that offers said skills and experience, applying them to the needs of each particular business
- Include testimonials / references with the offer letter
- Circulate that letter to all the businesses on the list
Using the above action plan, a person skilled in website design would put together a letter, outlining how he or she could help a business establish or improve their presence on the Internet -- and, by doing so, increase the company's profile and hopefully bottom line.
Planning is the Key to Success
As with just about anything, having the right plan - and then the discipline to implement the plan - is the key to success. A person needing to make quick money can do so by identifying her skills, matching those skills with the local marketplace, and then approaching those businesses or residents with the right offer.
