With recession on the mind, financial worries have many people scrambling to find ways to save money. Making sacrifices doesn´t have to be painful or inconvenient.
A weak economy can cast a dark shadow on financial portfolios for both the wealthy and middle-class. Inflation can be a looming threat in slow economic times when gas prices climb and financial security takes a back seat to checkbook anxiety and growing savings accounts. When credit lines are repealed, dividends vanish, and job layoffs are on the rise, living beyond the means is just no longer an option. Though sacrifices must be made, they do not necessarily have to leave consumers feeling deprived. In fact, many financial sacrifices can be relatively painless and still have a substantial effect on the monthly budget and expense planning. Eating Out During a RecessionNaturally, it is most common to look to excess spending before canceling any favored luxury services during an economic recession. Defining excess spending is easier said than done, as it can occur anytime and anywhere. Fortunately, eating out during a recession is possible to do on a budget. Restaurants for example, offer over-sized portions with a hefty price tag. Just two regular meals, an appetizer and dessert can set a couple back almost fifty dollars. Throw in a couple of cocktails and a kid’s meal, and the check will be even heavier. However, choosing to split a meal with a spouse or friend and throwing out the overpriced appetizers and desserts will knock the bill down about seventy percent, without going light on the tip. Specialty coffee houses represent another conspicuous spending culprit, with their enticing aromatic brews and relaxed ambiance courting caffeine-deprived customers. Opting instead for a home or office cup of joe can be just as tasty with the addition of some flavorsome creamers and syrups. Shopping During a RecessionWhen hunting for opportunities to conserve money in the monthly budget, thinking outside the box can score some major deals using some careful timing and preparation. Shopping during a recession helps the economy rebound and should not be eliminated from regular activities. Neither quantity nor quality should be spared when doing everyday activities such as shopping, banking and entertaining. Coupons can be used to save up to fifty percent of regular costs on items such as groceries. Use these in combination with special sales events, and one can easily shave up to one hundred dollars off of the monthly grocery bill during an economic recession. Banks compete for business during a recession more than ever. Customers should never settle for costly bankcard, checking and ATM fees when many banks not only waive these, but also offer to waive certain overdraft fees too. In addition, entertaining for friends and family can be economical by simply deciding upon a potluck theme instead of expensive dinner party style cuisine. Recession ExpensesRearranging recession expenses can include cutting out services such as cable, cell phones, and even Internet. These decisions should be carefully considered, as reactivating them can incur fees, surcharges and new contract obligations. However, these burdening luxuries can coexist with new budget restrictions by cleverly using them together. For example, there are several services online that offer free television. This, in conjunction with free digital television, can allow viewers to watch their favorite shows, both local and national, at no additional charge. Also, many cell phone companies offer fantastic deals on unlimited service with no long distance or roaming charges. Taking advantage of these two deals could allow someone to effectively eliminate his or her cable or satellite bill and home phone service without noticing a change in convenience. If throwing away the home phone is not an option, there are many Internet based phone services that provide unlimited use and wield a heavy blow to regular phone bill costs, totaling around ten percent of the usual yearly costs. Saving money in the monthly budget during an economic recession does not have to be uncomfortable or inconvenient. With practicality and efficiency, anyone can make painless sacrifices to cut excess spending and enhance his or her financial circumstances. Simply staying alert to deals and taking the time to search for the best financial offers can save a load of wealth without a lot of hassle during a bad economy.
