There is no shopper that would throw a dollar in the garbage. So why are so many wasting coupons? Learn how clipping coupons adds money in the pocket.

Most shoppers do not object to saving money. However, they also do not realize how much money can be saved simply by taking the time to use coupons. Many different types of coupons exist. Coupons can be found for grocery products, personal products, retail stores, and even restaurants. Once a shopper sees the coupon savings on his or her grocery bill, he or she often becomes an avid coupon clipper. It is possible to save half or more of the bill in addition to gaining items for free. The key to gain big savings with dollar and percentage off coupons is to be knowledgeable and aware of when and where to use them.

Do Research

Before venturing out on a shopping trip. Do some research. Check the papers and websites to see where the sales are on the items to be purchased. Whether it is grocery shopping or clothing shopping, knowing which store has the best deal is important. Use common sense when it comes to the time and gas used to travel. A dollar saved is not worth a ten-mile trip out of the way. However, finding stores within the same area that have the products on sale is definitely worth the time. Using a coupon on the products already on sale adds up to save the shopper even more.

Take Advantage of Double Coupons

Many stores offer coupon doubling up to a certain amount. Some of these stores offer this opportunity every day while others only offer coupon doubling on specific days. When comparing prices, be certain to consider that the coupons at these locations are worth twice as much as at the locations that do not feature the double coupon offer.

Check for Store and Manufacturer Coupons

In most cases, stores have a policy that allows a consumer to use both a store coupon and manufacturer coupon on the same product. For example if a coupon is clipped from a store ad paper or website such as Target or Walgreen’s, many times this coupon can be combined with a general manufacturer coupon. Check to make certain that the store coupon does not state manufacturer coupon at the top. Using both coupons allows for even more savings.

Know Where to Find Coupons

Many people would use a coupon if they had it. However, they either do not know where to locate them or do not want to take the time to find them. Finding free coupons is a fairly simple process. If one does not want the expense of purchasing a Sunday newspaper, consider looking online. Many sites offer an archive of free printable coupons. In addition to searching general sites check out the sites of specific brands. Many companies advertise to find a coupon on their website. Store circulars are also a source to find a free coupon inside. Simply pick these up at the front of the store.

Saving a lot of money with coupons is very possible. However, it is essential to be organized and smart about shopping. With a little practice and time, the savings can add up quickly!
