» Lisa Manfield - Where to start?

I think living on less is a great concept for so many reasons. Not only do we all work too much, we definitely spend too much on things we don't need, and this not only harms our finances, but also the natural world. I am the first to admit that retail therapy is one of my favourite passtimes. Why? Probably because I work too much and see it as an easy and instantaneous method of self-gratification. The only problem is that the feeling doesn't last long. So how to break free? I would love some suggestions for easy places to start living on less.

Great perspective, thanks for your message! Finding fulfillment in simple ways is one of my keys to happiness. I believe being aware of the problems associated with using material things to find instant gratification is half the battle. Once we are aware this is happening, it is easier to "break free". Everyone will have different ways of finding gratification. While I love shopping and getting new things are much as everyone else, I know that there are other things in life to make me happy. For me, a scenic walk, listening or playing music, and writing do wonders for me. I would love to hear other suggestions too.
